Mini Lesson: Today before we begin to understand and read chapter 5 I want everyone to build a prediction of what we think is going to happen in this chapter. When you make a prediction you look at what we already know about the text and we take our own knowledge and we make a guess.

Guided Practice: So let’s build what we know about the book so far and then make a summary of information.
Now, I want you to retell the story to your partner.  Now we will build our predictions and we will write this predictions on the  top of the page and we are going to underline turn it into a tree map so as we are reading we are going to find evidence to support and not support.

So what do I need to write a prediction: We are going to create a compound sentence. And we are going to make sure our sentence has a modal verb. Like may might could
I predict that Mrs. Frizz will take the students on more adventures through rain forest and they might go through a food chain from omnivores to herbivores or decomposers.

Mini Lesson: Today we are going to continue to build evidence to support our prediction by reading with partners. We are going to read with our partners and try to discuss what is the best way to read accurately and for understanding. Some students in this class still need to work on developing the skills of reading multi syallle words and chunk the words so you can hear all the sounds and even find root words.

Guided Practice: Read passage and find the multi syllable words and chunk them. I want you and your partner to find at least 15 words that have chunks that help you read them. After your done go back and re read so you and find evidence to support your prediction.

Test Connection:

Mini Lesson: Today we are going to figure out how to create definitions of words from context because that is the most commonly used way to find definitions. We usually don’t have time to get a dictionary so we rely on our prior knowledge and the text to make a definition.

Guided Practice:   Let’s Read one page that has vocabulary. I will model for you how I can figure out the word by using the context.
1.     Identify vocab word
2.     Identify context
3.     Prior knowledge
4.     Build a definition
We are going to create these test questions and see if we can stump the class.

Guided Practice

Mini Lesson: Today we need to build our knowledge about multiplication so we can begin to
Solve more complex problems with multiplication.  We are going to use arrays to connect our learning to solve these. Let’s review arrays

I am going to use my knowledge about arrays to multiply using the box model I will know I got it
When I can solve multiplication problems using the box model and the standard
Algorithim to check.

Guided practice:

So that is the basic of the box model and it gives you a clear understanding of what is happen
Ing when you multiple. However it is not efficient. So we are going to work on building our understanding of the box model.

Independent Practice:

Pieces of candy. How much candy did they have?

Mini Lesson: “As we identify what authors make us feel about a subject, we also investigate how the author caused those feelings to get stirred up . Readers pay close atten- tion, for example, to the images, the stories, and the choice of information, which authors include, and how those stir up emotional responses in us as readers .”
 I will be looking for
Comparative adjectives with conjunctions such as although, because, that
Comparative adjectives with idiomatic phrases and passive voice
“We were invited by our neighbors to attend their party.”
We is stronger than it as a sentence opener, but “our neighbors” is stronger still: “Our neighbors inDescription: Macintosh HD:Users:amybennettrosado:Pictures:iPhoto Library.photolibrary:Masters:2012:10:28:20121028-235359:Unsaved Preview Document.pngvited us to attend their party.”

Guided Practice:
“Another way readers can hold onto what we are learning is that when we come to the end of a chunk of text—or when our mind is brimful—we can pause and say to ourselves, ‘What did I just read?’ Then we can come up with little sum- maries of the important stuff . This helps us to recollect what we’ve learned .” this is the strategy I want you to practice today but you are going to do it with a partner. And the chunks we are going to use are going to be the paragraphs
